
On the new City Council cabinet announces on Thursday following the Conservative Party retaining control of the council on the May 1st local election, Wyken's Cllr Susanna Dixon has been promoted into the Cabinet as Cabinet Member for Customer, Workforce and Legal Services.

At the local election on 1st May 2008 the people of Wyken chose to relect Cllr Dixon for another 4 year term of office.

The first phase of work to deliver a major transformation of one of the most neglected parts of Coventry City Centre is due to start on Monday 28th April 2008.
Last year the Conservative Controlled City Council unveiled exciting plans to spend £3.6m transforming the Burges, Cross Cheaping and Ironmonger Row and to create a new public square behind Primark. The plans would see high quality, traditionally styled, materials used to renovate the area. Trinity St is also to become a two way road to ensure Bus access to Pool Meadow is maintained.

Gallagher Estates, which wants to build 700 houses on the flood plain next to Wyken have been speaking to local residents about their plans.
Councillor Susanna Dixon, Conservative councillor for Wyken is concerned about the affect this may have on local people. She is calling for a public enquiry.

More than a thousand people have attended new forums organised by Coventry City Council to improve local areas and solve problems from street parking to noisy neighbours. Ward Forums were set up in September 2006 to enable local people to meet with councillors, the police, representatives of bus companies and other organisations to identify and tackle local problems, often unique to that geographical area.

Greg Barker MP, Shadow Environment Secretary yesterday visited Coventry to launch plans by the Conservative controlled city council, to provide kerbside recycling collections for glass, cans and some types of plastic to 21,500 homes across Coventry.

Today the official list of candidates was published in Coventry. In Wyken, local campaigner Allan Andrews will stand for the Conservative Party.
Allan said, "Many residents will have the opportunity to speak with me over the course of the next month, and I must say that so far the response I have received has been highly encouraging. I hope the election campaign offers all candidates the chance to state their pledges and record and leave the important decision to the voters."
